The intensity, and chemistry of Les and Kathy's relationship was there for me from the paragraph they met and carried through to the very last page, and no doubt changes have been made in the adaptation -- they always are. Dubus' pacing is impressive; with each page one reads, the tension sajd desperation of each character's lives creep into the reader's consciousness.
